NEW YORK ARCHITECT WINS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art announced the first annual Stanford White Awards
New York, NY (Jan. 11, 2013) – The prestigious 2012 awards season is over! And the winner is Andrew W. Wright, of Wright Architects, PLLC., who received the first annual Stanford White Awards for Excellence in Classical and Traditional Design from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) during an awards ceremony on December 7, 2012. Wright received his award for the revival of what has been referred to as a historic landmark, in the “Residential Architecture – Renovation and Additions” category.

The Stanford White Award, named in honor of Stanford White whose legacy of design excellence and extraordinary creativity in architecture continues to serve as a source of inspiration, includes projects geographically located within New York, New Jersey, or Fairfield County, Connecticut. Wright’s award winning project required a complete rebuilding program. He transformed an Upper East Side residence into a Tuscan-style palazzo utilizing a four-story courtyard as a central organizing element. The courtyard was designed with two skylights, allowing all floors to have internal light while keeping the ground floor a stable temperature.

As an added benefit, Wright’s a Certified Sustainable Advisor through the USGBC. He designed and installed a geothermal system consisting of a 1000′ deep well (in the middle of Manhattan!) for cooling and a ERU (Energy Recovery Unit) to insure the cleanest air quality in NYC.

Andrew Wright is the president of Wright Builders, Inc. and Wright Architects, PLLC based in Kingston, New York. Prior to opening his own firms, he worked for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago, Illinois; Ittner & Bowersox in St. Louis, Missouri; Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, in New York, and Architecture in New York City. From the onset of opening his companies, Wright’s decided to build his
designs. At the time, this concept was unheard of. The combination of design and build proved to be very successful for their clients due to cost and time savings, attention to detail, and comprehensive involvement in the entire design and build process.

Wright has won numerous awards, over the years for historic restorations and creative solutions. Wright is a registered architect in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut, Texas, Michigan and the U.S. Virgin Islands, certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and Certified by the United States Green Building Council. Wright received his Master of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
