Modernized Upper East Side Apartment

New York, NY

Bringing a 1925 apartment up to today’s technological standards is always a challenge—but a fun one.

This classic two-bedroom, three-bath apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side hadn’t been updated in decades and still relied on window air conditioning. As was typical of its era, the layout included staff quarters, a formal dining room, and a library.

Our design reimagined the space by opening up the living area for better flow and more comfortable entertaining. We installed central air conditioning, upgraded the bathrooms to meet modern water-efficiency standards, and created much-needed storage for a client with a love of books—and an impressive wardrobe. (Apparently, people in 1925 didn’t have quite so many clothes!)
