USONIAN INFLUENCED HOUSE: Englewood, NJ
On occasion, Andrew is asked if he is related to Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous Usonian architect from Chicago who created an amazing portfolio of work between 1890-1957. Well, Andrew did grow up in Chicago and was influenced by Mr. Wright; but alas, there was no relationship, at 6’-4”, Andrew is too tall. But this did not stop him from applying the principles of FLW’s Unsonian ideas with closer attention to mechanical and structural details (FLW was famous for creating cold homes that leaked… Albeit beautiful). By anchoring the house with a stone base, Andrew gave the impression that it was growing directly out of the ground. He created horizontality, similar to tree branches, through the treatment of the roof lines. Blending colors and shapes, Andrew made it feel as if this house was always there.
